Want to get a glimpse into Atlantis’s publication process?
Become a volunteer!
-
Historically, Atlantis volunteers have only really helped with piece selection, but due to some recent feedback, there are now three major ways you can get involved!
Piece selection: The biggest way our volunteers help is by joining selection committees. There are five committees—one for each genre we publish (nonfiction, fiction, poetry, art, & photography)—and they meet once or twice a semester to help our genre editors narrow down the submission pool.
Events & publicity: Our volunteers can help us by providing additional staffing at events such as release parties and open mic nights! They can also help us spread the word about upcoming events and deadlines.
Distribution: Volunteers can also help with the distribution of newly released issues around campus!
We also have some additional opportunities in the works, so keep an eye out for that! 👀

Our volunteer opportunities are designed to be relatively low-commitment ways to familiarize yourself with the publication process. In future semesters, we may look into implementing a few standards for how we will track who is “active” in our organization, but ultimately our goal is for the volunteer opportunities to be of the you-get-what-you-put-into-it variety.

Yes, but with one major caveat. In order to keep our selection process as anonymous as possible, we will no longer be allowing students to attend committee meetings for the genre(s) they submitted to. That being said, you are more than welcome to attend other genres’ committee meetings and/or participate in our other volunteer opportunities.
